NFL head coaches are usually cautious and conservative, and when they talk about the season ahead they usually recite bland platitudes like, “We’re just going to take it one day at a time.”
But Dallas Cowboys head coach Wade Phillips is a little bit different. The Fort Worth Star-Telegram quotes him saying:
“Get the ring finger ready. …
“I think we’ve established ourselves, at least on paper, as a contender. It’s nice to be there rather than the other situation.
“We all know how hard it is to get to the Super Bowl, but those have to be the goals for this team.”
I don’t know if I can share Phillips’ belief that the Cowboys are going to be wearing Super Bowl rings at this time next year, but I like the way Phillips refuses to hide his enthusiasm for his team. I bet Jerry Jones likes it, too.
