--Dan Reeves turned down an opportunity to become 49ers offensive coordinator because he thought he had a good gig as a consultant with the Cowboys. Reeves, however, quit his job with the Cowboys after two days because owner Jerry Jones put an hour's clause in his contract.
--The Cowboys announced on Jan. 7 that they were going to release troubled cornerback Pacman Jones after one season. The Cowboys made the move official on Monday, saving them $1 million on the salary cap. Look for quarterback Brad Johnson to be the next Cowboys player to get the ax. Releasing Johnson will save the Cowboys $2 million the salary cap.
--Cowboys safety Roy Williams said he wants to come back next season and would even consider taking a pay cut.
Williams also acknowledged he is not comfortable playing safety in the 3-4 defense. So the question the Cowboys must answer is this: If Williams can't play in the 3-4 then what's the point in bringing back with a reduced contract or not?
QUOTE TO NOTE: "There's going to have a different mindset as a football team next year."I said it before. Everyone is going to give 100 percent each day they're out there or our team is going to continue to get on each other, and that's what you need. People are going to look at themselves in the mirror, and they're going to say, 'What do I need to do to improve?' When everybody does that collectively as a group, that's when you can accomplish your goals. You'll come together, and you'll stick together through the good and the bad times, because it's not always going to be good. There will be bad times here again. Everyone will jump ship.
"The true Cowboy fans that really believe - and they're mad about this season just like I am, but next year they can come back and have a great sense of belief that this team has a chance to do something special. Because it does, it really does." -- Quarterback Tony Romo during an interview with CBS' 11 on Sunday.
