GRAPEVINE - As he recovers from surgery to repair a fractured neck, special teams coach Joe DeCamillis will work on a part-time basis from home.
In DeCamillis' on-field absence, Wes Phillips, an offensive quality control coach the last two seasons, will run the special teams meetings as the team begins its organized team activities next week and June 15-17 minicamp.
The hope is DeCamillis will return to the field in time for training camp July 29.
DeCamillis and Wes, coach Wade Phillips' son, will meet each day to discuss the implementation of the special teams plan. DeCamillis also will review tape of the practice sessions.
"Basically, we will do it from Joe through Wes to the team," Wade Phillips said.
OTAs start next week: On Tuesday, the Cowboys will kick off four weeks of organized team activities at Standridge Stadium in Carrollton because the practice fields at the team's Valley Ranch complex need to be replaced following the collapse of the indoor facility.
"It is going to be an inconvenience but thinking of the big picture and thinking of what had to happen for this to take place, I think guys will embrace the opportunity," tight end Jason Witten said. "You can't allow it to get in the way of what we want to do. We have a lot to prove. We have to get better, and these next few weeks will be critical for us to become a better Football team."
Several players said the experience could strengthen the team's bond.
"A field is a field," linebacker DeMarcus Ware said. "Some guys may feel comfortable at another one, but any time you have to go through some adversity, it will strengthen you. This is a chance to bring us together."
