EL PASO -- There aren't very many chances to get free health screening, check out and purchase sporting goods, play Wii Sports, buy sports memorabilia, watch some horse races and meet a former Dallas Cowboy all for free on the same day and in the same place.
But people will have the opportunity to do so at the 14th annual El Paso Sports and Health Expo Sunday at Sunland Park Racetrack and Casino, sponsored by KROD-AM 600.
Doors will be open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Danny White will be on hand as the special guest.
"I think any time you can bring in a current or former Dallas Cowboy , you're going to have a big crowd," KROD radio sports talk show host Steve Kaplowitz said. "Since White played for the Cowboys in the '80s, he's associated with Tom Landry and those teams. People remember that."
As quarterback, White helped lead the Cowboys to five playoff apperances and three NFC East titles, while also setting eight records.
"I am excited about the opportunity to return to El Paso and re-unite with so many of our great fans," White said in a press release.
A new addition to this year's event will be the Wii Sports Challenge, which will include competition in the popular video game versions of bowling, baseball, tennis and golf.
"Because of the Wii craze, you'll have both kids and adults competing in it," Kaplowitz said. "So you can have a 10-year-old and 35-year-old competing for the championship."
Participants could receive one of five Nintendo Wii console systems that will be given away.
Part of the Expo's goal is to give visitors the opportunity to take advantage of health screening and consultations -- something you can't normally get for free, KROD program director Johnnie Walker said.
"It's not just geared for sports fans," Walker said. "It's geared for men, women and kids. There's something for everyone."
