Oklahoma State's Brandon Pettigrew missed three games earlier this season because of a high ankle sprain, but had he been able to play, the senior tight end could be on pace for an All-America-quality season.
He's second on the team with 35 receptions for 383 yards. At that pace, he would have 48 catches and 527 yards if he'd been healthy all season.
Along with his receiving ability, he is regarded as one of the team's best blockers - a combination that will result in a big payday for the Tyler, Texas, product next spring.
"He should be an All-American," OSU coach Mike Gundy said. "You'll find out who the All-Americans are at that position when they have draft day. You can pick whoever you want, but those guys they pick on draft day, all they're concerned about is who's gonna make plays for them at the next level.
"That guy, he's gonna make plays at the next level for a long time."
NFL Draft guru Mel Kiper recently moved Pettigrew up to No. 5 on his "Big Board," which rates the top players overall for the 2009 draft.
SEXTON SAYS Cowboys READY FOR BEDLAM
OSU linebacker Andre Sexton on the upcoming Bedlam game:
"Last year wasn't a good showing for us and the year before, I think we should've got 'em. It's gonna be a big game at Boone Pickens Stadium. We're playing totally different as a team, so I'm ready to see 'em. We've got this off-week to scheme up something, get ready for 'em, get everybody healed up. It should be a good game."
1976 BEDLAM: BIG GAME, LOW RANKINGS
Next Saturday's Oklahoma-Oklahoma State game will mark the latest in the year that the two teams have played when both are ranked in the top 15 and only the fifth such meeting ever.
Oddly, the 1976 season was not one of those.
The Cowboys were unranked when they beat No. 5 OU in Norman, 31-24. OSU moved into the rankings the next week and went on to share the Big Eight title with OU and Colorado.
