The Cowboys quarterback, who broke his pinkie finger on his throwing hand in Sunday's loss to Arizona, is pushing himself to play at St. Louis this week, according to a report in the Dallas Morning News.
Romo didn't practice Wednesday, but did have a throwing session with a splint on the finger. Insiders told the newspaper the workout went well.
When the injury was reported on Monday, it was estimated Romo would miss four weeks while he recovered.
"If (Romo) didn't practice at all, no, he wouldn't play because he broke his pinkie," coach Wade Phillips said. But he also said Romo would make the trip with the team whether he was playing or not.
In the meantime, Phillips says he was encouraged by backup QB Brad Johnson's practice session with the first-team offense.
"He did a good job. I think everything went smooth. He can manage a game. He can manage a practice. He knows where to go with the football. He sees all that."
